CMYK

Photoshop + Cinema 4D + After Effects

Idea

This piece was inspired by Felipe Pantone who, in my eyes, is a pioneer in terms of combining digital and print art. So after beeing a fan of his art for a while I tried to recreate a kind of gradient he uses in pretty much every artwork. I used the final gradient as a HDRI to light my scene inside of Cinema 4D. The torus just has a 100% reflective material on it to reflect as much of the texture as possible.

Gradient

The gradient is based on the CMYK colormodel. I used a gradient that fades to 100% transparency and back to 100% color to achiev the look i wanted. By layering all three colors (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow), setting the layermode to multiply and offseting the layers you’ll get this kind of gradient.
